Mpeg 1 and Mpeg 2
Mpeg 4  Codecs V1 and V2
Video CD  and Video CD rom
Indeo Video 5.06
Intel Indeo Video 4.4
Intel  .263 Video Driver 2.55.016
Microsoft Video 1
Cinepak Codec by Radius

Youll get the best quality with the least space with MPEG-4. That doesnt mean you should use MSMPEG-4 V1 or V2. Theyre not true MPEG-4. Neither is DivX. MPEG-1 and 2 will give you better quality but at larger file sizes. You could also use Sorenson 3 with VBR. The others youve mentioned are getting pretty old and generally arent used much anymore. Stick with MPEG-1, 2, 4 (the standards, not the MS or DivX hackjobs), or QuickTime with Sorenson 3.

What is the difference between Mpeg4 V1 and V2?

MPEG-4 v1 and v2 were Microsofts attempts at MPEG-4. Neither of which are standard, or especially good. As far as i know the only easily available ISO MPEG-4 encoder comes with QuickTime Pro 6. The decoder is included with QuickTime Player 6. Sorenson 3 is also included with QT Pro not to mention 50 some odd other codecs.

Thanks
I have Quick time 5, but could never get very good results with the codecs they have.  Will try QT 6.  Do you know of any way to get codecs for mpeg 4 that will work in MGI Video Wave?

The codecs included with QT 5 and 6 are standard codecs. Theyre the same for every app that uses them. If MGI VW has the ability to recognize QT and its associated codecs, mpeg-4 should show up.
