Delphi5 and Windows XP

When installing Delphi5 on Windows XP I get a "Merge Fail" error when the installation program is configuring the BDE. And the BDEadmin program cannot be configured.
I saw a solution in this forum, where copying the files from the Delphi CD Image folder to the harddisk solved the problem. I tried this, but Windows was unable to start up again and I had to reformat the harddisk.
Have anybody had this problem and what can I do?

Hi RainbowSoftware,

DID you check the ODBC ???
There is an update patch for the BDE for Microsoft XP.
Download and start Installing.

Installation procedure.
1. Run only the BDE update patch which installs BDE on your machine and then install delphi by selecting custum and uncheking the BDE installation at the time of installing delphi.

Enjoy ... Installing.
but a merge problem
may caused by the try
to merge a older bde-installation

just ensure, that no bde is installed,
look out for a idapi.cfg-file
(hope the name is correct)

hope that helps

I don't quite understand your answer Meikl.
On the PC only Windows XP and nothing else is installed when I try to install Delphi5.
Are you logged in as local administrator when you install D5?

Kiran, I couldn't find any patches for BDE, but your comment gave me an idea. On my portable PC with Windows XP I installed Delphi5 without any problems, so I made an InstallShield program only containing the BDE and installed it on the other PC, after installing Delphi without the BDE module. And now it works.
