This line works OK on my ASP page:

sConnect = "Provider=vfpoledb.1;Data Source=\\MLC\mlc_vol1\M-Vol3\mis\mlc"

This line does not (gives me "invalid path" error):

sConnect = "Provider=vfpoledb.1;Data Source=M:\mis\mlc"

Interestingly, both lines work in VB6. I am running IIS5 under W2K server and the so called "delegation problem" is solved on this site by impersonating a user with full rights to the above path.
