Access 2000 needs to be re-installed as it forgets VB commands eg replace

I am using Access as a front end.  A command button is pressed to generate SQL in a text box dependent on an input text box.  The VB behind the scenes uses the replace command among others.  After a fresh install this works fine but after a while I get the following error when clicking on the command button:
"The expression on click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error:
Invalid procedure call or argument"

When debugging Access does not seem to understand the replace command.

I am really bored of reinstalling Access every time and would greatly appreciate some help.  So would my network administrator who doesn't want to lend me the discs anymore.

[Thanks for the comments guys but all the references are present and correct and the code compiles fine, this problem only seems to affect Windows 98 machines as my machine NT4 has not had to have Access re-installed once]
