How to save registry changes to a file

How can I create a .reg file storing all the registry keys I deleted?

I want the user to be able to import this file (to recover from wrong deletions) when using regedit.exe.

Is SaveKey the method I need to use? Tell me how, because when I save with SaveKey and then try to import it from regedit I get an error message saying "the file you're trying to import is not a valid registry file".

thanks in advance.
