Old Log New Drive

Hello Experts.

I have a win2000 install on an old HD that is in a new win2000 system.

How can I read the event log file of the old drive from the new system?

Sorry, there is no (official) way to do it. And even if there was an "inofficial" way (you could write your own program), it would not make sense to keep "outdated" event log records on a new system...

You can save an event log and read it?  Whats the problem?

Can you put the old drive in a machine and boot from it.  Then save the log to a file and you should be able to read it?

(I know you can do this in NT40 so you should be able to do it in 2000)

The old system had a sudden failure.
As the ERD was lost, I was forced to create a new server.
I did this on a new drive.

Would I be able to use the new ERD to boot the old drive and check to see if someone was logged in when the system failed?
I don't know.  The old event log might be there.  Use find and look for a file on the other drive called *.evt and see if you can open it with the event log viewer.

If you can access the old drive. you should be able to access the event logs in Old_Drive\winnt\system32\config.

Then just start Event Viewer, select Open and go to the path specified above.

I did find the logs but they were blank.
Any suggestions?
