Audio driver for HP 6735 that doesnt require a tatoo!

Currently Running windows 98 SE

Where can one find an audio driver for HP 6735 that doesnt require a tatoo in the hp 6735?  I know hp web site and drivers.com have references to hp drivers.  When you load them a recover disk is required (which I dont have) and also a tattoo in the hp 6735 is requied (which I dont have!)

What I need is a audio driver that can be loaded into the hp without having any requirements of a tattoo or recovery disk.  Anybody know exactly where and what audio driver would be correct?

And what is a tatoo?  Do you need the little guy who says "The plane, the plane" to install it for you?

For those of you that are not aware of special "keys / alias tatoos" in the firmware...  HP and E-machines both set the machines up where if you need to use a recover disk to restore any drivers / software or Operating systems...  The first thing the recover disk or "licensed drivers from a hp web site requires is a type of hidden registration.  Commonly called a "tattoo".  These are installed at the factory.  Or you can pay hp specialist $65 / hr to reinsytal.

When you reformat or install a Linux or other OS in your "hp system" you have a good chance of wiping out that tattoo... thus the recovery disk, any drivers you get from the hp website will be worthless without it.

You can still load drivers if you know which one is required and who makes it. Assuming the creators of the drivers allow free access and usage.   Which brings me back to the original question... Does any one know where or who that might be for a hp6735?
Keys I understand.  Now I understand tatoo.  No idea where to get the drivers.  Have you tried www.driverguide.com
Did you reload the OS or another OS? If not you can probably use the drivers already in the system.

If a window appears stating that it needs help finding particular files, browse to the following pathnames, one at a time, until the file is found:
C:\Windows\inf
C:\Windows\options\cabs
C:\Windows\system
C:\Windows\system32

Also, look in the Device Manager and see what is listed as the audio device and see if you can discern the manufacturer and then go to their website and download the appropiate drivers.

These suggestions may seem too simple, and if so forgive me as I don't really understand why you would need a recovery disk except to get the files that would normally be in the OS install disk. The OS installation files should be in a folder on the recovery disk. Other than those files which you can either get from the Win98SE disk or from the paths above, you only should need the audio drivers particular to the audio chipset installed whether on a card or the MB.

I can kind of understand the HP propietary thing but to load drivers it seems that they wouldn't require authentication or what ever it would be called.

I hope this helps.

OK.. here is the scoop...

I can not utilize those easy to get to HP drivers on the hp site.. Why? Because when I try to load the drivers on the HP 6735 the HP 6735 ask for the recovery disk to be inserted..  I dont have one.

Well I have one (recovery disk) for my other hp (xt934) computer.. but the recovery disk for the other hp (xt934) doesnt work on the hp 6735.

So rayt333...  that is why I cant use your answer..

I  hope you or Orkbane can help me work around this problem. All I want is sound to come out of the machine..  like it is supposed to.

Call HP and order the restore disk.  That is what I had to do for one customer.  They will want your serial number and may charge $10 for shipping.
