DNS resolution

Hi !

I have got a strange problem.

I get every evening a file from a ftp server.
Since few days, I cannot retrieve this file because of the following error :

ftp.server.com: unknown host or invalid literal address

But I don't get this error message any time.
Sometimes my ftp command works !!!

I have replace the name by the IP address and now no problem!

My computer is a linux, the /etc/resolv.conf has two lines
with the good nameserver.

I don't if the problem is on my computer or at the DNS sever level.

Best regards.

It does sound like a DNS resolution issue if you can use the IP address with no problems.
Add the following entry to your resolv.conf as a nameserver:
 cache01.ns.uu.net   198.6.1.2

Whatever your primary nameserver entry is seems to be failing you.
Or you could simply add an entry to your hosts file with the ip address of the server:
<ip address>   ftp.server.com
