Take a look at this MS KB article especially the section on passwords.

Just to clarify rayt333's advice, the key you want to delete is literally named "Key".

After you restart IE, you may also need to go to Tools, Internet Options.... Select the Content tab, and click on Disable. When asked for a password, don't enter anything, just click on OK.
Close Internet Explorer.

Search for ratings.pol on your PC and delete it when you find it. Do not reboot.

Open regedit, save your registry(click file mune export registry, makes sure ALL is selected, give it a name and click save.) then navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ratings

on the right side of regedit click on "key", press delete on your keyboard...resart Internet Explorer.

Can't get any more detailed instructions than this can ya?

Cheers,

Jatcan
eeerrrr... I wouldn't delete the Ratings folder BTW, just the "KEY" DWORD entry located on the right - hand side of regedit once you click on the "Ratings" on the left hand side..

Cheerio Dudes and Duderettes...

OH Yeah, Rayt133 and Asyscokid, if you do not delete the ratings.pol file within windows explorer the fixed won't work...actually I beleive if you do it youur way, you will still be prompted for a password but the password will be blank, so you just click OK without entering a password and THAT works, and the settings for the Content Advisor are stoired in the Ratings.pol file but the password is stored(encrypted of course) in the Ratings\Key entry in the registry.

Cheers,

Jatcan

You are passing info that is incorrect. The POL folder does not include the password for IE's content advisor. If in fact it did then by deleting it would erase the stored password.
The info I posted was correct, you know the info you copied and posted.
How to Remove Content Advisor Password in Internet Explorer

The following steps will remove any password set in the Internet Explorer Content Advisor and allow you to reset the program to its original state.

Thanks to all of u guys. I could reset with rayt333's answer few days back, but could not accept the answer as the site had a bug. Any way thanks again.
OK...I should clarify something here.

#1---I did your fix. It worked, I was able to load web pages after doing it. However, when I go to the Content Advisor AFTER performing your fix and I click the DISABLE button, it prompts me to create a new supervisor password, now where do you think that prompt is coming from? The registry maybe? The ratings.pol...I don't know. Honestly. I assumed(yes I know that makes an a$$ out of you and me both-my appologies) that it was coming from the ratings.pol file because even when I delete the whole key(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ratings) instead of just the "key" value I STILL get prompted to create a new supervisor password....I can enter anything I like so the problem IS resolved and of course YOU DO deserve the points...this isn't about points...BUT, the password prompt is STILL coming up...BUT, when I delete the ratings.pol file the Disable button on the content advisor tab becomes "enable" not "disable" so, smarty pants(I say this with no insult intended-just having fun Ray!), if YOU know how this process works so well, then please enlighten me because I AM here to learn and I will MOST certainly listen to EVERYTHING YOU have to say, then I will go and research what you have said to me to verify it, if I cannot verify it, then, and only then, will I contradict you....AND, I certainly would NEVER contradict you in another thread NOR would I ever even consider to doubt your TRAINING, as you so bluntly put it in another thread, AND, as far as training goes, I know people that have trained themselves and they are much better tech's/programmers/hadrware types than YOU or I, so training has nothing to do with it, unless you call self teaching training. Like I said half of a resolution is better than NO resolution. Your way enables someone to reset the supervisor password on the content advisor to anything they want, my way disables the content advisor again, the way it was when IE was first installed. Both valid troubleshooting steps, but mine is COMPLETE. Now, smarty pants, you were going to teach me something I believe...I'm waiting eagerly to glean whatever info I can from you...It's what I do and I am good at it. So YODA, teach me.

Jatcan.
I know what I posted wasn't entirely the way it is...but this:

"If you've forgotten the Internet Explorer content advisor password and want to change  the ratings settings then follow these instructions to change the settings back to their  defaults.
All the Content Advisor settings are stored in the key below. If you no longer have the password, then  simply delete the key, and all the settings will be removed.
" is also blatantly wrong. It is NOT the way it works or the "disable" button would have become "enable" again, which is the default state of OFF....whatever....seems to me that you also have posted some things that are falsehoods eh?

is it that hard to admit you was wrong?? You should be getting used to it by now.
:>)

Hey buddy at least I CAN say I was mistaking about what I said, you still haven't even though I proved you wrong...try the steps yourself..I did, and they absolutely DID NOT work like you said they would, I only got prompted for a new password, the settings were NOT reset top their defaults, this would insinuate that the COntent Advisor would not be enabled, which is the default state. What I posted about deleting the ratings.pol file was absolutely true with the exception that it does not contain the password only the Content Advsior settings...so as I see it we were BOTH somewhat incorrect in our thinking, I have admitted it. You haven't. So who is finding it hard to admit they were wrong, me or you?
I beleive someone else had a problem with you, as I saw in a thread a few weeks ago, same sort of situation, you were accusing someone of being stupid. Mr.Golf Pro, the computer expert, accusing everyone who WORKS in the industry of not knowing what they're doing or saying...I actually believe I stuck up for you then, not knowing it would all get thrown back in my face with the first opportunity you saw to sooth your bloated ego. If it wasn't such a professional forum I would definately tell you were to go and what to do with yourself and your attitude. I guess I just did eh? This is meant for the backroom, my appologies to everyone else who is reading this.

So lets ask sanjaykattimani, after you performed Ray's fix did you have to enter a new password in the Content Advisor or DID you simply see an enable button where the disable button used to be?

Cheers.
Jatcan
If you want to persist in these personal attacks to wards me then I will be forced to report your actions to the admin who will take action.

If you had actually taken the time to read my "comment" then you will see where it says "should be disabled" not "will be disabled" and in the very next comment by asyscokid, he cleared that point up. Then you come along and says it is all wrong and telling the user he must delete his password file and everything and creating more work by having to enter new passwords where needed. Now if you would take the time to actually read some posted comments you will see I was not wrong, maybe I didn't give "every" detail but I gave enough info that the user was able to clear the password he wanted to.
Now please act a little mature and stop with the personal attacks.

Cheers Ray, and even if you can't admit it when you're wrong(or partially wrong as it were) I still don't think you're a standup guy...not anymore anyways.
you started it RAY, not me. So if YOU stop I will no problems. BUT, I WON'T be pciked on and accused and called stupid and then NOT say anything. If you took a swing at me I'd fight back, you took the first swing Ray, not me.

Goodbye and have a great life.
I personally do not care who started it, but it will stop now.  The customer above did not pay points to watch an argurement.  Either knock it off and/or take it to the lounge, but I assure you it will not continue here.

I believe this was the turning point here in the question.

And deteriated for there onwards.  There was no reason to begin escalationing this into an argument, that I will now have to clean up as it is now in PAQ, and we do not want anything in the PAQ that is argumentive are unnecessary to the question.

So jatcan, if you wish to continue this in the lounge, fine, I have a Moderator there as well.  Let's keep it civil please.
