copying file using ssh

Hello there

I want to copy a file using scp. I have ssh to the remote machine in which i want to copy the file to.  I have created a directory on the remote machine called /home/update.  I used the following at the command line on the remote machine to copy a file to it securely.

scp source@hostname:/home/bindupdate/file /home/update/file.

i get the following error message
/usr/bin/shh: No such file or directory
lost connection
