Hi, I am a Linux newbie...hopefully someone can help me out.

I am trying to install RH 7.3 on a Compaq Presario 1214, which has a Duron 850 - not sure of the chipset.

Once I boot from the CD, the installer seems to hang (or at least it just sits there) after the line:
--------
usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
--------

and that's it. It doesn't seem like the computer is completely frozen, as I am able to use the power key to put it into standy and wake it back up. When I do that, I get further messages:

--------
usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 28, frame # 1333 (note: the frame number varies each time)

usb-uhci.c: Host controller halted, trying to restart
--------

And it just sits there forever. The fact that I actually get these further messages shows me that the computer isn't really locking up, just not proceeding past that point.

I have tried it in Text mode, used the noprobe option, but I think it's hanging up before the point where those options would make a difference in the install.

If anyone has any idea about this, I would really appreciate it. Again, I have very little experience in Linux or Unix, so go easy on me! ;-)

Thanks,

Mike
