Logon error to domain

I set up a computer with XP Pro and have been using it for weeks.  This morning an error message comes up that I cannot logon due to the domain controller not available.  However, I know it is since others in my office are connected (they are running XP Pro as well).  I can log on locally and ping the server with a favourable response.  The event viewer on the XP machine tells me that there was an error with userenv (Windows cannot determine the user or computer name).  This then is followed by an autoenrollment error (could not connect to the active directory).  We have a Windows 2000 server and the Active Directory on that machine does list the computer.  The DNS on that server also lists the computer there with its proper address.
I can log on locally on the XP computer and join the domain with a successful welcome tothe domain message.  However upon rebooting I still cannot log on.
Your help would be appreciated.
