asked on

download full copy of IE

How can I download a full copy of IE5.5 and IE6. I don't want to download the 500k IESetup file and let it download and immediately install the software on my computer, I want to download the entire file so that I can install it on a computer that does not yet have internet access.

Is download your choice, or is the CD OK?  The various Windows Operating Systems include full versions of browsers, though they exlude the subsequent fixes delivered from WindowsUpdate.

Here are some links, though.

Nice to see you here.

I can't find the link to the MS Corporate site on this system for additional download options; will check my other system this evening for that link.

Here you can select the downloads for IE 5.5 with SP1 and SP2 as well as other versions, selectable by Operating System.

Back to work, hope this helps.

Drat, finally found the Corporate link only to find this:
The Windows Update Corporate Web site has been retired.
...all migrated to the standard WindowsUpdate process.

When you say substitute 5.5 for the 6 do you mean it should read D:\_helping_tulsa\cd\refurb\net\ie5setup.exe /c:"ie5.5wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"""

That gets an error message error creating process <ie5.5wzd.exe

astaec, not just the microsoft sites but even the tucows site just downloads the 500kb iesetup file.

Well that used to work, I assume MS must have removed the full version of 5.5 from their site. I just looked and all I see is updates for 5.5, but not full version anymore.
They moved it, it is still available:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/archive/default.asp

Download the setup file and then do as above for IE6
Yay!

I have followed all the steps above, when I type in the command, I get the license agreement, and what OS to choose to download.  I choose a seperate directory and it says its preparing to install Windows Update Files, then the screen goes away.  I gives me the following files in the destination directory: filelist.dat and iesetup which is a dir file.  THe filelist dat files is 1kb and the iesetup file is 0kb.  I tried this with my laptop also and the same thing happens.  Any ideas?  I am running Windows XP pro on both systems and enter the following command: "C:\Internet Explorer\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

Thanks
