How to make a graphic as small as possible?

I create a transprant graphic in Photoshop. Its size is 300 x 500. Then I write some characters on the graphic as a text layer. Now I want to publish my final graphic. However, my characters are not as large as 300 x 500 so there are a lot of blank spaces that are useless. How to remove these spaces and make my graphic size fits its contents.

to to menu IMAGE and choose TRIM. that would do the job.
Isnt that what i just said?..heh
Oh, excuse me about that. I was responding several questions at the same time and don't realized that...
ooops...
:-)
1. Open your image
2. Press CTRL+A
3. Choose File > New
4. Press CTRL+V

This way the image is as small as possible. But the thing is that you cannot change the text because it is resterized.
Sorry! missed some steps!
1. Open your image
2. Press CTRL+A (Mark All)
3. Press CTRL+C (Copy)
4. Press CTRL+N (Create New File)
5. Click OK (be sure to keep the width and Height that is set)
5. Press CTRL+V (Paste)

This way the image is as small as possible. But the thing is that you cannot change the text because it is resterized.

There are 2 formats that are used for small image sizing: GIF and JPEG...which is why they are conventional formats for the web.

Small JPEGS tend to be somewhat blurrier.

Small GIFS tend to have less colors.

When saving in Photoshop, choose JPEG as your format and in the successive POPUP window, there is a horizontal slider to choose 1-12 for JPEG quality.  Test different numbers.

To further reduce file size, reduce the image size by going into the menu "Image"..."Image Size"  Then choose smaller dimensions.

If you need any more help let me know.

Peace, Eric
Here's another solution which should be by far the fastest:

Hold the Control-Key while clicking on the text-layer in your layer-inspector.

Then go to IMAGE and choose TRIM or CROP (whatever it's called).
Go back and read the very first comment.....
Yes but you missed the essential part :-)
Which is what?...
What does it matter to you? I was just trying to help...

If you tell somebody who is maybe a newbie to use the crop tool, this is information may be right, but not precise.
He has to make a selection of the area he wants to crop.
Holding the Control key while clicking on the layer in the inspector is the fastet way to achieve this.

I assume if somebody doesn't know the crop tool, he must be fairly new to Photoshop. So somebody who tries to help him should be precise about what to do.

Please stop attacking other peoples posts... you have done this almost to any post here in this thread! That's not the intended purpose of this site.
No, one uses the crop tool to MAKE the selection. By using the control key to make a selection of the layer, then using the crop menu you might as well skip the selection process and use Trim.

I go after posts that are incorrect or misleading. They only serve to confuse the asker. I've been here long enough to know what is needed information and what is just confusing fluff.
But it's wrong what you are writing!
Sorry I doN't want to start a discussion on this... maybe you are just not able to follow me... I did in no way write that one should use the crop to to MAKE the selection...

Youre not following ME. The crop tool CREATES the selection and crops in one step. The crop MENU crops to a current selection. The Trim menu trims away transparent pixels. You can skip the whole selection process by using Trim.

Again, all of your posts have repeated information that was posted months ago. Read the entire thread before posting.
