I turned off RAS and can't get it back on.
I read an article saying by disabling this service I would make the PC more secure. I obviously didn't read it close enough and have done something wrong.
Now I can't turn it back on. When the machine starts I have to manually start explorer.exe and then can access control panel-admin_tools-services . When I try to get the properties of RAS and/or other RAS related services, it won't display the properties. When I try to close the services window it tells me to close all properties windows first, and I have to crash out.
I can't get on the web with this machine any more, so any assistance short of reinstalling windows would be great. Thanks.
(I know you;ll probably need more info to fix this (exact services names etc), please let me know what's required and I'll see what I can find).
Thanks

-Try launching the rras mmc & enabling.
-Did you try from a cmd prompt ..
net start "Remote Access Connection Manager" ?

Can't start it as I set it to "disabled", not "manual". All I should have to do is change the property from "diabled" to "automatic/manual" (Property page won't display). Is this value stored in a registry key?

This fixed the specific problem I was having with this service, however I will be posting a new question shortly in regard to the general problem (explorer not starting/service control manager error) that I thought was caused by this issue. Evidently it wasn't. Thanks.
Try looking in the Services control panel (or run services.msc), and see these two services;
Remote Access Connection Manager
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
On my Win2 (workstation) it was configured to be: Startup type: Automatic, Status: Started.
give it a shot.
