OK....
A class object that implements runable, and so
creates its own thread, can leave orphans; threads
that persist even after the object dies. Right?
It's up to the thread to kill itself. You can also
use System.exit() to snuff everything.
How does a uncaught runtime exception effect all
this? Does it kill the process with a System.exit()?

Not exactly true.
It can be used to create new Thread objects.

No it ends the thread.
