How to set the lotus notes client window to modal mode ?

Hi,

I wan to implement lotus notes allpication in an open area. These pcs are allowed to open lotus notes client only and not for other application. Therefore I'm thinking of launch the lotus notes client while startup then set the lotus notes window in modal mode then upon closing the lotus notes the pc will automatically shut down. Is it possible to do so ? Please advice.

You cannot do this from Notes.
If you want to automatically launch notes, call the exe from a script.
To automatically shutdown the pc when notes closes, make sure that you return to your script and shutdown windows from your script.
To make notes run in a modal window, see if you can do this from your script.

For more info about how to run an application in a modal window, post a question in the appropriate windows forum. I can't help you there. (Maybe somebody else can in this forum, I don't know.)

There is a mode which you can invoke notes in modal window, but seems to be useless. Might be intended for some use which is not documented properly. So try it...

Run this from your run menu of windows

notes.exe /kiosk

This will open the notes in full screen mode and keeps it like that forever and you have to kill it using ctrl-alt-del mechanism...best of luck and let us know if you find anything interesting with that.

It launches the lotus notes. But in blank screen. I can't see neither workplace nor pull down menu .. why ?

Just tried this and it looks cool in full-screen mode, but you can still use ALT-TAB to switch to other applications and CTRL-ESC for example to open the Start menu.
Now if we can figure out a way to catch and cancel these keystrokes I think suelow has his answer.
Hi jerrith,

as theses keystrokes are windows internals, all this belong to Windows policies settings in the registry and may be changed using the Policy editor available in the "Ressource Kit" (directory on CD; look for poledit.exe) from M$.
Various predefined POL-Files are available from MS @ http://msdn.microsoft.com

As this in windows security-stuff you should check msdn.microsoft.com or ask for help in onw of the "Windows Security" sections https://www.experts-exchange.com/Security/Win_Security/

Thanks for the tip, cirtap.
FWIW
Kiosk mode was implemented for Touch Screen systems...so alt Tab isn't a concern for that.
