I have a cable modem that is connected to the uplink port of a 3Com "HomeConnect" Home Network Ethernet Hub.
I have 2 PCs running off the hub on a regular basis (sharing the cable modem connection using 2 ISP addresses). I occasionally swap in a laptop for one of the PCs. All of the machines are configured to half duplex.
The performance has significantly deteriorated recently. The symptoms I am seeing occur when I cold boot up a PC/laptop and then connect to the internet. The first time this happens, the connection is okay. However if I then shut down and then cold start again, the performance is slow. This does not happen when connecting directly to the cable modem (not through the hub).
Switching off the hub and then switching it back on again after a short while seems to clear the problem but this is becoming very frustrating.
Can anyone help me get around this problem permanently?
