Merging 2 jpg-s

I have two jpg files which I would like to merge into one. The first is a logo, the second is some text and I want the logo on top with the text underneath, created into one single jpg. The logo one has 256 colors whilst the text one is done in gray.

I am computer literate but graphics are not my strong point. I have PSP, ACDC, Morpheus and Photoimpact but none of them explain it clearly enough. I tried making 2 layers but one of them always turns into a "background" even if I call it "layer 1".

Can someone use beginner language and run me through how to do this slowly? My preference would be PSP but any of the others listed would be fine.

If theyre JPEGS theyre not going to have any transparency which means youll have to get into some work youre probably not prepared for. Namely erasing the backgrounds so that the two images dont obscure eachother. You should be able to do that with PSP. Once youve got the backgrounds erased just put the two images on two different layers. If you have to make 3 layers so your background layer has nothing on it.

The logo is small and not much to work with. The text one just has a white background and black text.

If I sent you the 2 jpg-s, would you be able to merge them into one with, say, a white background?

You might try this method:

Open both files in PSP and create a new file (CTRL N) with the size and resolution you desire. You will have 3 images open at this time.

Select the logo file to work with by clicking somewhere on the blue title bar for that image. Select the magic wand tool and click somewhere on the background of the logo (not the logo itself) then invert the selection (SHIFT CTRL I) this should select the logo. Then do EDIT/COPY (CRTL C)

Now select the new empty image by clicking somewhere on the title bar for it.

Do EDIT/PASTE/AS NEW SELECTION (CTRL E) and place the logo where you want it in the new image.

Now select the text image by clicking somewhere on the title bar for it.

Using selection tool (the dashed rectangle on the tools bar) drag around the text to select it. Then do EDIT/COPY (CRTL C)

Now select the new empty image by clicking somewhere on the title bar for it.

Do EDIT/PASTE/AS NEW SELECTION (CTRL E) and place the text where you want it in the new image.

Save the newly combined image as a JPG. (FILE/SAVE AS)

I'll take this option. I may not learn how to do this but as the project is now a bit urgent, it's worth a 100 points.
