Video Cards on new power macs

I want to know if anyone has had any experience with swapping out a video card on a newer power mac (graphite G4 or higher) with non-mac edition card. The mac edition cards seem to carry a premium and since I do not have a need for ADC I don't want to pay for it. Please let me know which power mac you had and what type of video card you used for it. Thanks.

I'v read stories , that some geforce cards will boot up without flashing any rom.
Others that flashing the ati radeo 8500(the original one;64mb) works well.

but read this; a very interesting link:

If I were you I would stick to at least an OEM Apple Video card.
I bought a Gforce 2 32 Meg AGP card for my Apple G4 466 Digital Audio and it works perfectly in my machine.

I don't know if you have PCI or AGP for video..but you can get a great card on Ebay from a seller named saltomer.
I got my card from him for a fraction of what Apple wanted and I love it..and its an Apple Card with ADC also.

Also Apple has not updated their nvidia drivers in quite some time...so any of the newer fancy 64 meg cards and above the gforce 2 are still running on old drivers, hence not running to their fullest potential..

Apple's website under discussions proves to have alot of BEEFS about this issue.

I would not suggest you buy a video card and have to flash the Rom unless you are familiar with how to do it or else you can render the card useless if you goof up...

Good Luck finding a card..

Buck,

You might be best served going with a real Apple card.  The following cards have been flashed successfully from the PC side...

Voodoo 3 (PCI and AGP)
Voodoo 4 4500 (AGP)
ATI Radeon 8500 (64 meg AGP version ONLY)
A variety of AGP Geforce 2 and 3 cards

The Geforce 3's seem to develop some sort of instability and flicker when used in anything but a Sawtooth, or on OS X however.

Will let you know what you need.
