Datagrid Validation - Cancel Value Help

How do I make the datagrid go back to the original value?  It keeps giving me the message box then still saving the value to SQL Server.  Here is the code.  Am I doing the cancel value wrong?  Thanks all.

If Trim(dbgAllOpenRecords.Columns.Item("Hold")) <> "Y" And Trim(dbgAllOpenRecords.Columns.Item("Hold")) <> "" Then
    MsgBox "You may only enter a 'Y' or clear the column box for the hold on this check", vbInformation, "Update Error"
    Cancel = True
End If
