Hangs during Windows 98 install...

How do,

Im currently trying to install Windows 98 onto an old pentium 100 (16mb ram). Seems to go ok does checks and then when it comes up with 'loading setup wizard' the computer gives a squeak and a black rectangle appears in the centre of the screen and it hangs. Tried installing off cd and hard drive and it does the same thing! Does this computer not meet the minimum specs?

I could install win 95 on it but Im setting it up to network with a win 98 machine and would rather have win98 on both.

Any ideas??????

You nmay be able to bypass the memory check by using a setup switch

Setup /im

Please see http://www.winplanet.com/winplanet/tutorials/694/3/

Worth a try.
You might need to reset your BIOS. either by loading setup defaults or updating it. I have done this and it worked. I also formated the drive to Fat16 instead of FAT32 to make it work. That again would be BIOS related...

Cheers for the help guys sounds like back to win95 is the easiest option. Will win95/win98 network together though? I would have thought that with fat16/fat32 etc there would be problems
You can use fat32 with win95 and 85 and 98 will network together just fine. Download a bootdisk with cd-rom support from www.bootdisk.com
Your better with 95 with that amount of ram. :>)
I would _highly_ suggest getting more ram for your computer.  For Win98, 32 megs should be the bare minimum you should have.

If you plan on doing any multi tasking on this machine, you may actually need more than 32 megs.  At a computer show, ram for a 100 MHz machine should be fairly cheap.

Apparently chrischall decided to stay with Windows 95l, which was dbrunton's suggestion.  Accepting that as answer.
