Oracle 7.3 AND 8.0.5 Client install - orainst.exe fatal error

I have to have both the oracle 7.3 and the 8.0.5 client software installed on a given machine. I install 7.3, all is well, then I attempt to install 8.0.5 and it crashes almost immediately. I have tried having 8.0.5 on first, and then installing 7.3. The 7.3 install crashes at 6% (while copying files). I have tried this on win NT4 sp6a, and with windows 2000.

How do I install/get the 7.3 and 8.0.5 client software to co-exist on a machine? Yes, I stopped all oracle services in the control panel before installing anything.

any help would be appreciated, this is extremely frustrating for me !

thanks,
andrew

Hi,

1. Have you installed them as Windows user which is member of the Administrators group?
2. have you put them in separate Oracle Homes?
Commented:
OracleHomes has been introduced with Oracle 8. Try to install 8.0.5 first and then 7.3 into an another home.

Use the Oracle Home Selector to switch between the versions.
Hi,

Here's the trick to insatall Oracle 7.3 and 8.0.5 an the same machine and coexist:

First install Oracle 7.3 on a first partition like C:
this will make an Oracle Home on the C: drive;

Second, Install Oracle 8.0.5 on a second partition like Drive D: and be sure to give an another Name for the Oracle Home for 8.0.5 and it should works!

Hope this Helps!
