An external Modem Blaster DE5625 modem works only intermittently with SuSE 8.0 Linux. Web pages half-load and then stall, and the modem frequently hangs up. netstat -a does not show many dropped or corrupted packets. Also, pppstat does not show any obvious problems.
The truly bizarre symptom is that a ping to the remote IP of the PPP connection sends out packets every second, and you can see the modem "send" light flash, but nothing comes back for 20 seconds or more, then all the ping replies return at once, and the modem "receive" light flashes. So it seems that something is buffering too much and too long.
The ISP is OK when accessed with a Windows PC. Any tips appreciated. Please mail email@example.com.
