Win98 boot up problem

Every time I boot up I get the F8 Menu then have to hit the enter key on item 1- normal boot, to load windows.
Can any one give me any ideas why this is happening? and how to stop it.

I have run the various scanreg options.

You can also change this by going to start > run > msconfig > advanced button and untick startup menu.

Thank you all for the replies. I was waiting for a while untill I had recieved some more replies. The computer this happens on is seldom used and therefore not an urgent problem. I an unsure how to award the points and to whom. The replies given did not correct the problem but I did try the remedies suggested. I suspect that CowboyJeeper may have 'Hit the nail on ther head' as I supect it is a problem with the keyboard. Whilst the F8 key is not getting stuck, it could be the contacts underneath. I  noticed yesterday intermittent keyboard problems and will change the keyboard next time I visit my Daughter.  eecomputings thank you for the email reminder can I ask you to award the points?.

Thank you
John
Thanks, johnoneill1 for the reply.  You seem to be hinting that cowboyjeeper's first comment is the solution.  Will award as indicated.
