Hi,
   i would like to submit a form in my email outlook/outlook express without opening a new window after submiting the form. currently my code is:

<form method="post" name="testEmail" action="http://localhost/a.cfm" target="_parent">
     name<input type="text" name="to">
     <input type="submit" value="submit">
</form>

Whenever i click submit, it will open a new window with http://localhost/a.cfm. but i don't want this to happen. I don't want any new window to pop up. I just want to submit the form in my email outlook without new window to pop up. Any idea how can i do it? thanks

Alternative you could use mailto so no window will be opened... Like this:

<FORM name=testEmail action="mailto:email@host.com?subject=Test Email form" method=post>
<INPUT type=hidden value=senderemail@host.com name=email> <TEXTAREA name=text rows=6 wrap=virtual cols=30>Asnwer is...</TEXTAREA>
<BR><BR><INPUT type=submit value=Send></FORM>

As soon as you use any webadres, the email program will open a new window because the email-client cannot go to a website of website-script.

I cannot use mailto: . this is because i need to do some database processing and required to post the form.... Furthermore, after clicking the submit button, it will not send an email , instead it will update record in the database.
Then you have a problem in solving your aim.

Why not make the best of it. When the user submits the form from his/her email it will be rather nice for her of him to be notified the data was correctly processed and you thank them for submitting!?

Even if you could get it working, will users not think the whole submit did not work all together?

No way. If you want the form to be processed, you don't use Outlook AT ALL. The page/script/program that the action calls will process the form data directly, there's nothing done on the client. It's all handled by the server.

and that's not true at all. Whether a mail window opens or not depends ENTIRELY on the user's set up and what browser they're using. I ALWAYS get the mail window on my system. I suspect many people do.
Webwoman, don't want to start a discussion, but I need to correct 1 thing:

>>and that's not true at all. Whether a mail window opens or not depends ENTIRELY on the user's set up and what browser they're using.
>>I ALWAYS get the mail window on my system. I suspect many people do.

You are right, but we are NOT talking about browsers, we were talking about an e-mail with HTML in it. So the type of browser they are using should not be relevant, what type of e-mail-program would be relevant.

On a web-page clicking a Mailto-hyperlink would indeed open the e-mail-program (if not allready open) and open an e-mail message.

Still this not provide a solution. I do not think it is possible without Internet-browser opening. People agree?

You put HTML code in an email, and you put a link it it, you get a browser window opening. Doesn't matter what kind of link it is. On that I totally agree.

We ARE talking about browsers -- this is a mailto link, on a web page (even if it's in an email, it's still HTML), and what happens depends ENTIRELY on how the browser is set up to handle that.

If you're asking for an answer in an email, do NOT use an HTML form. It's completely unnecessary. Just put a few underscores next to your question or leave some blank space so they can fill it in. They add to your email, click SEND, and no browser, no new window, just an email sent.

Just because YOU use Outlook doesn't mean everybody does... I personally HATE HTML mail. For the most part, I delete it before it ever gets a chance to load.

when i click on send button of the HTML in the outlook, it will sent the email by changing the send button to done.

> it will sent the email by changing the send button to done

So that way the user will see that the e-mail has really been send, great.

Well this is not the way it should work, but you were the expert here.

Does the solution work for all e-mail clients?
