I'm trying to get a silent install to work for the Oracle Client and I'm not having much success. My goal is to install the oracle client without configuring Net 8(I have a tnsnames.ora file that I will be using). I am currently getting the following error:

{
silentInstall2002-11-15_01-39-02-PM.log
No forced value specified for the variable DEP_MODE, associated with property DepMode, in dialog Installation Types
}

I can't seem to find out where to set the DEP_MODE variable. My response file is as follows:

Move the parameter INSTALL_TYPE="AppUser" to the end of the [SESSION] section like:

......
NEXT_SESSION_ON_FAIL=false
INSTALL_TYPE="AppUser"

I tried this solution and it worked. The silent log shows an error with regard to the Net 8 Assistant.

After posting this question I had downloaded the Oracle 8i personal edition and it installed the client silently with my response file and generated no net 8 error.

Your solution does what I want though. It installs the Oracle client without configuring Net 8.

Thanks,
