installing java sdk on solaris 5.8 - problems installing libCrun.so.1

Hi,
I got a problem that was previously asked at this forum. It goes as follows:

I am new to Unix and Solaris.  I have been asked to upgrade the jdk on a Sparc workstation.  I downloaded the tar file from sun and followed directions and all seemed well.  I got a /usr/j2se directory that is fully loaded.  I even set up a  symbolic link replacing the former value which pointed to a java1.1 installation.  I have upgraded env variables and tried to resolve any difficulties in finding the dynamic libraries.  When I type java however Java tries to start but fails with:

Error: failed /usr/j2se/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so, because ld.so.1: /bin/../java/bin/../bin/sparc/native_threads/java: fatal: libCrun.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory

I could not find SUNWlibC package in my system. so i tried installing a patch 108434-09 which contains the SUNWlibC package for 32 bit. Which is giving me an error saying that one or more required packages is not installed. There is only one patch specified as required for 108434-09 and its already installed in my system. Could anyone help me install SUNWlibC or java. Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks,
Avinash

You cannot install a patch in order to get a package.  You must install the package from your CD distribution using pkgadd (read the man page).  If the SUNWlibC package has dependencies, pkgadd will tell you about them so you can install them first.

Commented:
The SUNWlibC library was part of the Sun Workshop
software. An application environment for java.

Guess it is called J2SE v1.4 now.
So that what you need to install, dont forget to apply
the patch afterwards.

Commented:
Sorry, my misstake.
The libC is a bundled lib with the os.

Put the CD SOlaris Software 1 of 2 in the machine.
When the filemanager pops up, click on s0 and then
on Products.

Under the File menu, select Open Terminal.
In this window run:

pkgadd -d . SUNWlibC

and the apply the patch.
