Hi All,

I need to move the Information Store because of disk space problems.

What is the easiest way of doing this.

I have read up on it on Microsofts site and I think I can simply:
-Put a new disk in and format
-Backup the Information store using MS Backup
-Restore to the new disk
-Dismount the Database
-Remount using the restored Information Store.

Am I missing something here ?
Sorry, I am a Exchange Novice.

Regards,
Wayne

What version of Exchange? There is no need to backup then restore - although it is good practice to do a backup before you make any changes. Moving the information store is relatively easy. Install your new disk and format.

In Exchange 5.5, run the performance optimizer and specify the new location for the database.

In Exchange 2000, open System Manager. expand Administrative Groups->You Administrative Group->Your Server->First Storage Group and right-click on Mailbox Store and choose Properties. Go to the Database tab and browse for new locations for the database and the streaming database. Repeat for the Public Store.

jimk,

I have performed the tasks that you have detailed, but when I navigate to the folder I copied the Mailbox database to, its says there is already one.

Does this mean I will lose everything in the Store?

Wayne
Yo shouldn't have copied the mailbox database manually. The procedure I outlined moves the database for you automatically. You should just delete the copy you made in the new location, then repeat the move procedure.
