connecting two pc's to one laser printer

please advise whether i can connect one of my pc's to the usb port ans another pc to the parralell port instead of buying a switch box to share one printer with two pc's.

one pc is a celeron running xp home and the other is a p4 also running xp.

the printer is a lexmark t520 business laser printer

I can think of no reason why this should not work, if the printer is installed correctly on both machines.

Hi,

This is possible. But very much difficult. You can use a Home network between your two computers.

For that, you will NOT need very much money. Just spend some money for buying cable and join them in your both computer's ethernet card.

Now, you can setup a Network and you can share the printer in both computers. If you need only to do through USB and Parallel Port, you can achieve it by specifying Direct-Cable connection through dial-up networking.

a printer gets confused if it recieves information from the parallel port when it can see a computer connected to its usb port. I would advide you to get a reversed usb hub which allows 2 computers to share 1 device. Belkin sell these.

good luck
