Nortel VPN v4 over W2K

Nortel Contivity v4_15
Connection is directly from DSL modem to Laptop PC (no router, no firewall)
The DSL works fine.
My VPN client worked sporadically, and the IT department suggested that i upgrade to the latest version. After upgrading to the latest version, I began receiving the error message "waiting for banner text" while trying to connect to the VPN tunnel, then it would time out. I ended up reinstalling Win2k, then loaded the client (first thing), and it worked fine. Then i began to reinstall the different apps that are required (email client, updated internet browser, printer, etc..) and I started receiving the same message (banner text). I have
since uninstalled all but the vpn client, and it still won't work. I have even stopped as many services as Windows will allow, but still nojoy.
What is causing this?

I would notify Nortel and see if they have any patches.
Document all that is installed.
They may request the info.
Run
MSinfo32 ( search for it ) for a good list of info on the hardware and SW and versions.
How much RAM do you have ?
