I use a beaming station that beams any file to a pocket pc or palm os or any OBEX compliant device. I would like to launch an application on the "beamed" device, with no preinstalled client software. Do you think it's possible?
thanks

Probably not, just for security reasons.

Anything is possible the problem becomes is it actualy a something that could be truly usefull. I would think not. Because as SysExpert said there are just too many security reasions to list at to why this would not be a good idea.

As far as I know, it's possible to PUT/GET a file (OBEX layer) without having to provide any authentication data to the destination device ! I know this because I do this !!
So, now I would like to know if there's an OBEX function (or any other "hack" alternative) to automatically start an application on the destination device. I've heard somewhere that a company called "Appearnetworks" (www.appearnetworks.com) has been able to do that.

It would be a neat trick, but I have a feeling, it requires a local app to be running first.
 I hope this helps !

it would be the easiest way to make a little app running on the destination device, which would be listening in background for incoming connections, then i would display whatever i want... but the problem is that in an "hotspot" configuration, users that haven't been in the wireless network area, must be informed that a public wireless service is available... that is the problem. I have had some informations about some obscure features but i'm still searching for details of OBEX or any other infrared available functions.
bye
