If you have the Windows 2000 Resource Kit there is a tool included called shutdown (shutdown.exe). This allows you to shutdown either the local machine or any remote machine.
I have also used this tool with task scheduler to restart servers during the night to avoid downtime for users.

i have install the win2000 resources kits at the server but still cannot do the remote shutdown for the client pc.
is it possible that my cliet pc are using win98 so tht at the server i cannot do the remote shutdown? is it the shutdown.exe file from the win2000 resources kit can not support the win9x, it just can support win NT, XP, Win 2000...???

I'm not sure? I have not tried with Win98. If it does not work there is also a vbscript in the "Remote Administration Scripts" folder of the resource kit. The script is called restart.vbs. Using switches you should be able to force a shutdown. I have not tried this so I don't know if this works with Win98 either.
