Cannot open Exchange Administrator

I have a customer running Exchange on an NT4 Server. I think it is Exchange 5.5, but I cannot get into the administrator to check the version.

When I try to run the Exchange Administrator I get the following message:

cannot find Dynamic Link Library WMSUI32.dll in the following path. Also in the event log I noticed Exchfilt.dll failed to load.

Exchange is up and running, but we cannot add or delete users.

Sounds like you have some missing or corrupt files. I would run the Exch5.5 service pack 4 on the server. It should replace any missing or corrupt files.

Commented:

Try looking at the file properties of Admin.exe on your Exchange Server as you will get the version info you are looking for from there.

Also, if you haven't been able to get the Administrator program working on the server try installing it on another machine. Just run Exchange Setup but only select the Administrator program in the install options.

Have you tried jjmck's suggestion?

Commented:
Reapply Exchange SP2 or later.  This will restore the missing file. Rest
assured that Exchnage is still there and reapplying the latest SP for
Exchange will repair the error.

See MS KB Article Q297171 for full information.
