i was just given a new buslink 48x cd-rw, model # rw4848. it works fine as a burner, we haven't tried it as a rewriter yet, but it seemingly is refusing to work as a cd-rom...i've tried both 'regular' (ie store-bought) cds in it and 'home-burned' cds in it...it _tries_ to start up the games, then either locks the computer up or comes back and tells me the cd isn't in the drive.  i'm running windows xp, and it's being disgustingly helpful without actually fixing the problem.  what now?!?

1) Check that the master/slave jumpers are set correctly.

2)Try moving it to a different IDE bus.

3) Are they any problems in the Device amanger ?

4) Have you tried changing the parameters in the Device manager ( DMA, Auto start etc ).

5) Get the latest drivers and BIOS updates for your Motherboard !

I hope this helps !
