Does the Mercury mail server create logs? If so, what's in them?

Does your DNS have an MX entry for your mail server?
What DNS server does your mail server use?

Ill have to look at the logs when i get home, so ill tell you then...
anyways, my dns has an mx entry for non-conformity.tk which is binded to mail.non-conformity.tk
mail.non-conformity.tk is binded to the server computers ip.

my dns server is called smart dns plus i believe, once again ill have to double check that when i get home.

Ps. the only software im running is the dns server and the mercury mail server. this is all i need for mail right?? just double checking.

Is the "smart dns" provided by your ISP? Otherwise try to add their DNS server to the list.

Yes, I think that is all you need to have running. It is possible, however, that some services needed for Mercury don't start up automatically (I think this is an issue if you run on NT4, possibly also 2k; the Mercury web site probably has some info on this).

It looks like the receiving server fails when looking up your server on the DNS. Indeed, I cannot ping your mail server by name (perhaps it isn't up just now) so I wonder if your domain name is properly registered?

I'd be really surprised if your ISP doesn't have a DNS that you can use. Ask them.

my domain name SHOULD be properly registered... the www. prefix works just fine. do i have to register mail.non-conformity.tk as a name server??? just another thought of mine. i believe, if you checked the server just before writing that message, that the dns should have been up and working.

Commented:
Well, I can't reach www.non-conformity.tk (spelling OK?) either.
What I meant with DNS was the following.
Someone must register your machine names and connect them to their respective IP addresss. I am sure there are several ways of registering a domain name, but generally your ISP keeps a DNS server, on which is kept records of the computers/IP addresses connected to his network and connecting them to "names". If your setup is such, you need to tell your ISP about your machines and the IP address/name combination you want to use. The mail server needs to have a special MX record in the DNS, to function as internet mail handler for your domain. I suppose you could run a DNS yourself, but that is beyond me. Anyway, nobody could do a DNS lookup on it, unless they know it exists.

Anyway, gotta go for a while, see you later.

well, thats funny... ill ask some friends to try and get on the website, but anyways... yes my dns is registered with the registrar, and i have an mx record on the dns for my mail server. oh and i am running my own dns server, which i am very proud of :)
Commented:
Now it works... ping and www request... strange. So the problem probably is with the mail server. I'll see if I can dig up something useful.

Cheers
