Hey, thanks for taking the time to read this message.  Anyways heres my problem, I am in charge of the server at my school for all sorts of things, and there is many programs that i need to run.  If i were to run something in the back ground with the & syntax, how could i switch between that program and all the others i am running?
Thanks

First execute 'jobs' to get a list of your background tasks and what their JOB_SPEC is, for example:

chaos> jobs
[2]- 18653 Stopped                 xemacs -nw ispadmin
[3]+ 18655 Stopped                 xemacs -nw ispadmin.text

The JOB_SPEC is the left most number enclosed in [] (e.g., [3]). To bring a specific task back into the foreground issue 'fg JOB_SPEC'. To bring the first xemacs task into the foreground I'd do 'fg 2'.

Note that Linux implements virtual consoles and you can switch between them with Ctrl-Alt-F?, where ? is from 1 to 7 (on RedHat, others may have more or less).
