Unable to remove Active Directory !!!

I have a LAN, there is one Win2K Domain Controller Server (PDC) and also the DNS Server, as the following:

- Domain name: first.local
- Server name: server1.first.local
- IP: 192.168.0.1/24
- DNS is inegrated active directory.
- No DHCP Server.
- No WINS Server.
- A Global Catalog.

I installed another domain controller in the same forest which is first.local, as the following:

- Domain name: second.local
- Server name: server2.second.local
- IP: 192.168.0.2/24
- DNS IP is: 192.168.0.1 (which indicate to the PDC).
- No DHCP Server.
- No WINS Server.

I try to remove the active directory for the second domain controller by using dcpromo to return it back as a member server, but I faced a problem that when the procedure of removing active directory i received a message that the domain first.local doen not exist or can't be found.

I tried the integrated active directory DNS and the standard DNS on the second server and I faced the same error. Also I configured a reverse lookup, and I have the same error.

Can any one help.

Thnk u my friends, I fix the problem, the solution is:

- run the regedit
- goto to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions
- change the ProductType from LanmanNT to ServerNT.
- restart.
- after rebooting run dcpromo.

The surprise that the sustem see himself without active directoru and let me promote the active directory from the begining, I promote the system as a new PDC wit a new forest, then i configure a trust relationship with old PDC.

congras.
