MSSQLServerADHelper service gives error 100 / 3221225572 ???

Hello experts,

I just performed an update for security patch for MS02-008 Microsoft XML Core Services via Windows Update. Now MSSQLServerADHelper will not start with an error 100 listed in the event viewer and the statement "0" is an invalid number of startup parameters. This service takes at least 2 startup parameters in the Application section.

In the system log I get the 3221225572 error.

What odd is that this is an existing SQL 2K server that has been operating for months and no account information relavent to service has been altered. This has only ocured since the security patch. Any ideas?

Best regards,

Nadine

Can you look at the following registry hive:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSSQLServerADHelper
You (should) have a key "Start" and a subfolder "Security".
Check also if the permissions to these hives have not been altered or so.

I don't have the subkey ENUM ...
try to delete this entry (make a backup first), and restart the servce.
