stuck message queue/s

Hi folks,

I have this install of exchange server under SBS.

for some dumb reason, messages just stick in the queues for just SOME domains - i can't figure out what is the common feature of these domains, but they just stay there.

if i try to 'force connection' it just goes active for a while, and then requeues itself after a while.

any suggestions? how to diagnose?

thanks and regards,  Mike.

thanks jjmck, but it's not that because i can send mail via a direct telnet session to the effected servers.

i think i know now what it is though, i'll try a fix this morning, and if it works, i'll post the solution here and award points to any reasonable suggestion.

cheers.

They could be trying a reverse DNS lookup on you and failing. I think Hotmail will only accept if they can reverse lookup.

ok,

turned out to be a bug in exchange - fixed in sp3.

it is related to destination mail serviers with a CNAME in the mx record.  - how did they let that bug get through!

thanks to all who tried to assist.
