I created a Warning dialog with two buttons on it (I Accept / I Decline)  Accepting will dismiss the dialog and then the login dialog will then be visiable and I Decline will shut down the computer.  The application is installed on the C:\ drive with the name Banner.exe...  I modified the reg. under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and under the same CurrentVersion\RunServices to include the following strings"
under run:
C:\BANNERPath                          C:\Banner.exe
and under runservices
C:\Banner                                      C:\Banner.exe

What I am trying to do is get it to come up in front of the login dialog (or before) on Windows 95 and UP on various computers.  I am at my wits end on this one.  Do I need to run this as a service, then how.....

is there any reason why it could not run as part of the login script ? you could block users from logging without authentication via the use of a policy. Therefore you would achieve the same result ?

let me know if this is an option

alternatively you could look at modifying the msgina.dll file which is the actual login box.

If you want it to show up before the login screen it would probably have to be a service.

Well one thing for sure Win9x and ME don't run services at least in the context that are true services. If you developed this program for NT 2000 XP then redevelope it as a true service rather then as just an application.

If it is a true service it is real easy to get it to install as service. All you need to do is run the following simpled command one time.

\MyService\MyService.exe /install

and that is all there is to it, from now on the service is listed in the Service Manager unitl you run the /uninstall command. When you develope it set it so it starts automatically.

However after saying that I would look into what huckey mentioned about using a login script.

Ok, we are close.  I can not use a login script and modifying the login banner is out, and I already have a warning banner created and using the LegalNoticeText dialog only gives me an OK button and I need two buttons as explained earlier.  Let's try this one.  Can I modify the LegalNoticeText to point to my .exe file or am I asking for the impossible....... If nothing else I will be stuck with running it as a service.....

>>>Let's try this one.  Can I modify the LegalNoticeText to point to my .exe file

I rather doubt it being that the LegalNoticeText is just for dispalying text and not running an exe.

>>>I can not use a login script

I am curious why you can't?

isn't a login script something that is run from a server when loging on the network.  If I have a laptop / desktop computer not connected to the network then the warning banner also must display on that one as well.  Or am I missing a step or something....
