Configuring Ports on D-LINK Internet Gateway

I recently installed a D-link internet gateway.  There are certain things that I have been unable to download and I am assuming that I need to open a port as I have done nothing put plug it in:)  For example, I am unable to download from a link in my email for a job posting on monster.com or download certain articles from online newspapers.  Can someone refer me to a site to assist with ports or the like? I do not have experience in this area.  Thank you.

http - port 80
https - port 443

should allow you to browse the web. If your link is on a machine listening on a high port e.g. 8000, 8080 then you can open these too but sometimes people run servers on strange ports and then you have to look at it on a case by case basis to see what you need to open up.

ASKER

Thanks for the info Cestor, but I still seem to be having the same problem.  For example, when I received email notification as to a response to my EE question it provided a link to see your response.  When I click on the link, I go nowhere. I actually have to right-click on the link, copy shortcut, and then paste it in the address bar.

Pretty sure it is my IE as I do not have this problem with Netscape. Thanks.
