1: CMOS password (or) Supervisor password

98 does not have the same password protection as NT/Win2k/XP have.

I found some software on www.download.com with search keywords "password protect" for win98, but I have never tried any of them.

Problem is that if someone wants on your pc, they can boot the pc to dos, and access all files that way.

Only secure and fool proof system is to encrypt the entire hardisk. This way you have to know the password before dos/windows is loaded. If someone boots the pc with a 3.5" disk, they cant access the C:\ drive cos its crypted.

If you are woried about some files and folders, there is also programs that only encrypt the folders and files you select.

start your shearch from www.download.com or www.google.com

You get what you pay for (and less)
Free programs to add passwords like that can be incompatible, unprotective, and do more harm than good.
I use a program called Password Protection System Lite

what it does is adding a password to any EXE file you want to prevent people from running (including win.exe) whenever someone starts an EXE file (that is a protected EXE file) he will be prompted for a password

I got it from www.download.com, i've been using it for sometime now on my win98 system and so far so good!

What about install LILO? Not the whole O.S. (Linux) just the lilo boot manager.
In fact, any boot manager do that for you, i recommend (for simple) the GAG (Grafical Boor Manager)
GAG:        http://gag.sourceforge.net/
You can set 2 passwords. The first one is to set the password for the CMOS, and the other one is for the general. For this you can go to the BIOS, and select set password. Enter the password for this, and it should be working.
Do not mess with the CMOS password, coz if you lose it, you will have to reset the jumper settings on the motherboard.
