Exchange 2000 Organisation name

I am trying to upgrade a Windows NT4 Domain with Exchange 5.5 to connect to an existing AD Forest with Exchange 2000. The exchange 2000 and exchange 55 organisation names are different and I have read that there can only be one Exchange organisation per forest.

Has anyone changed the organisation name in Exchange 2000 using ADSIedit? What are the repercussions if any?

What you are trying to do is not possible. You cannot merge two different Exchange organizations. You can migrate your Exchange 5.5 mailboxes to your Exchange 2000 system using the Exchnage migration wizard.

You could uninstall and reinstall E2k using the org and site name of the 5.5 org.  Then do a move mailbox.  That's about it other than going the PST route (ExMerge or Exchange Migration Wizard)
Well, Microsoft does have a utility to change the org name, but it's neither recommended nor supported in a production environment. what Stemy recommends is the proper way, but you really need to do your homework before you try this.

Thanks to all for your comments - just want to clarify something. I have set up a test environment and have migrated my nt pdc to 2000 joining a live AD forest as a child domain. Exchnage 5.5 is still functioning as a separate organisation to the exchange 2000 organisation within the forest. Am I to understand that if I now install an Exchange 2000 server into the child domain connecting to the existing EX2K Org, I can migrate users over from the exchange 5.5 server whilst they run in parallel?
