Okay lets start by the requirements.  You can probably run the show from a machine with windows 98 and 32 megs of ram, but then you can run the accounting of a multinational with Quicken.

I recomend at least a Pentium 3  runing at 1 meg with at least 92 megs of ram.  Hard disk is not an issue you, since you can not buy a machine this days without at least 40 giga.

Opertaing systems.  Try to have Win NT 4, Win Nt 2000, or Win XP.  Again you can try with Win ME or Win 98 (Win 95 is not aceptable, it wont install).  I know that I sucessfully intalled the Beta on one such machine, but then, who said that I was sane.

If you have anything that approaches those specs, then you will need to intall the following software, in the following order.

1.  Intall IIS.  If you have any of the systems that I recomend, then you have already IIS, thougth it is probably not active.  Go to Add/Delete Software. Select Add/Remove Windows Components and Select the Internet Information Services (IIS) and the Microsft Transaction Server(MTS).  Even if you are only now planign to create windows applications, those two will prove usefull,  especially if you create a web services.  The MTS might seem strange since the Net components are not created as COM Components, but you may find yourself creating a combination of both.  For the moment, just trust Install both.  They are already include and you dont have to pay for them.

If you have some other operting system, then you may enconter problems.   On Windows 98/ME you can use Personal Web Server Intead of IIS, but I dont know how it will work for NET.

2.  After you have the Ground work.  You will need to install the framework.  If you have Visual Studio, the the CD called Windows components will intall the framework.  If you dont have Visual Studio then try the following Address:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4c1b6b0b-439e-4db4-849a-b72416f40300&DisplayLang=en

3.  Third you will need an editor.  Again if you have Visual studio, dont waste time reading the rest of this message and go play with your toy.  If you dont, well, you be surprise, but you can use and Programming editor and you can use even the notepad.  If that is the case, I recomend that you go and buy a good introductory book.  Wrox have several good ones, depending on the language,
VB or C#

Good luck

hi CarlosMu,
I have the system configuration as you said. and also
I have VS.NET Beta1 cd but windows component update CD is not with me. So I downloaded the framework from the link you said and installed. After installing if I put VS.NET cd, it is still asking for Component update. Do u have any idea?
Thank you

Commented:
No, I can only imagine that the frameowork didnt install properly or the beta that you have is damage somehow.   Have you tried rebooting after installing the Framework but before putting the vs.net cd?

I tried installing the setup from the link you gave. It says installtion complete.

Please clarify what you mean by "it is still asking for Component update".  When you run the Beta the first option is to install the framework, but in your case you should be able to go to the second option without problem.  If not then I would suspect something is wrong with the CD.

When I insert VS.NET BETA CD 1, I get the following dialog box, in which it still asks for Component update CD. though I have installed .NET Frame work and .NET SDK.

Okay that very good.  I will ask for the component if you select option 1.  Go directly to option 2, since you have already intalled the framework.

Commented:
What I meant was that is the standard instalation screen. You have already pass step 1 and you dont need to do that anymore.  Go to Step 2.

it does not allow me to goto step 2

Commented:
Sorry, but I have no further ideas.

thank you

You have to have the component update cd to install visual studio.  You do not need the update cd to install the framework.
