Error with Zetafax and Lotus 123

Hi All,

In the last few weeks we have installed Zetafax on our machines at the company I work for. We have just encountered a problem with Zetafax & Lotus 123, in that when a 123 Spreadsheet document is faxed by going to FILE --> PRINT in Lotus 123 and Zetafax printer selected, once the open file has been faxed and the user then tries to print a hard copy by going to PRINT and selecting his/her printer, an error message appears, stating;

"123w.exe has genereted errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program."

"An error log is being created."

The error log contains the following information;

"The application,,generated an application error The error occurred on 01/09/2003 @ 16:58:41.300 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 00000024 (<nosymbols>)"

Here is a list of the software used:

     Lotus 123 (Lotus Smartsuite 97)

     Zetafax version: 7.5.1.91

     Zetafax server operating system: MS Windows 2000

     Client operating system: MS Windows 2000

     Network operating system: MS Windows 2000

Any ideas to what the problem could be?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

One of the things I have noticed on WinFax sorts of software is that they need page breaks otherwise they cannot send a p/b signal. So get your user to add page breaks and it may well solve the problem.

Hope this helps.

ps The same usually applies to WP docs as well. The WP shows a page break but there is often no associated p/b code - just screen formatting. Again get the users to add formal p/b's and it should overcome the problem.

How did you get on with solving this problem?

Hi,

Thanks for the response, unfortunately the error seems to be a strange issue with Lotus 123. I contacted the makers of Zetafax and they said they'd never encountered the error before. So I've decided to switch over to Microsoft Excel as we haven't encountered the error with this software.

Thank you,

Dave Hood
I think the Fax is trying to write a format back to the 123 file. (maybe a layout) Try faxing a copy of the file, rather than the original, then just discard when the error occurs. This will prevent the file becoming corrupt, which happens frequently with 123 files.
DaveHood - I would appreciate it if you could let me know whether my suggestion actually worked - thanks.
Unfortunately it didn't after many hours of trying
Pity it didn't solve the problem - all the same thanks for the feedback.
