Partition Magic 8 - Error #45 (bad sectors???)
hi,
I have 20GB partition (FAT32) and i want to resize it to 18GB to have additional 2GB parition.
When i set things up and press apply, it starts moving data and just after couple of minutes while "clearing truncated partition" i got "Error #45 - CRC error in data". Then it restarts computer and i can't even see the partition (i have to assign it a drive letter in PM to make it visible again).
The documentation says that error #45 is about bad sectors.
I tried running Norton DiskDoctor and 'chkdsk /r'. chkdsk says i have 176KB of bad sectors, but neither of them finds any new errors on partition.
and i still can't resize my partition :(
please help
thanx, peter

try chkdsk /f
ASKER
i've just done chkdsk /f. results:
1. chkdsk hasn't found any problem on the filesystem
2. it says there is 176KB in bad sectors
does it mean i can't resize partition with PartitionMagic if it contains bad sectors???

Yes, they must be repaired or marked bad, then part magic will be able to do it
ASKER
so how do i repair them or mark them as bad?

thanks, i used the /ire switch and it worked :-)
interesting thing is that pqmagic /? doesn't show that u can actually use it.
chkdsk /r again hasn't detected the bad sector on newly created partition. then i run win98's scandisk and it finally marked this 1 sector as bad.

Glad your up and running!
