only mx works with unicode and
embed fonts for the text control all character (the font must be an arabic font)

i am not sure what arabic text is like ... does it have characters / alphabets like english?

cos i work with chinese & other asian languages, and we have a lots of trouble displaying all the characters correctly even with fonts embeded (it is simply too big and not showing all characters)

but hopefully it should work fine for arabics

cheers

unfortunately im facing all ur problems.

arabic characters/alphabets are totally different from english.

i can't display all the characters correctly even with embeded fonts .

so, we should co-operate to find a solution for our problem :)

I've recently built a system that includes Arabic text display.

You can get away without embedding the font so long as the user has a unicode _sans font with Arabic character set installed -- basically if they are running WindowsXP with Arabic support they will.

Other than that, so long as your database is set up to allow ntext or nvarchar and can pass unicode out to your ASP page you should have no problems.

More of a dilema in Flash was that Arabic is a left to right script, which essentially means flipping all your UI elements around -- a hassle, but again, doable.

Dear Whodini2k
Can I have a look at your loading functions please
I am using Unicode and I have Arabic Installed
I am using XML with unicode but still the text is not appearing well. It is scambeled as if Flash did not detect the right encoding

I am using Flash remoting with CFMX to load the arabic directly from SQL2000 into Flash via coldfusion.  I'll see if I can isolate some of the loading routines for you and send them over.  Would suggest bypassing xml might be a good start however :)

Should be quite easy to port to .NET or Java as they both have remoting available to them (unfortunately not free).

Good news however, the AMF PHP remoting version seems to be pretty usable now -- http://amfphp.sourceforge.net/

Have given it a try and was able to seamlessly interchange a flash application with a previously coldfusion backend with a php version quite easily.  Very nice for making cross application server useable code :)

cool ....

that's good, i was looking for remoting component for free but found none & cfmx is too expensive ...

that's excellent thanks whodini2k
