Hey,

I've got quite a wierd problem happening here that I was wondering if someone could shed some light on. The other day I ran out of room on one hard drive partition when trying to install an app so I held down shift a dragged accross a couple of large video files (probably over a gigs worth) off it onto another partition. The app only needed 650 megs of room but it still said there still wasn't enough room. I moved acvcross another video file but still not enough room. I check the drive and it said there was only a few hundred megs left. I had to delete one of the video files to make room.

I've run disc checks and stuff but still I can't seem to get the space back. I run XP. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi sam,

Try to do the following:
1. Empty the recycle bin.
2. Clear the IE History
3. Disk programs (like Norton Disk Doctor) store the deleted files even after you delete the from the recicle. Clear those files too.
4. Empty the temporary folders (C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Temp)

After this, Run the Defragment, it might be tha you have not enough space cause your data is fragmented.

Rolan.

Hmm, system Restore might be locking the space up...see this article (its for WinME but the System Restore function is basically the same on XP as ME):

Also try running Disk Cleanup from the drive's properties from My Computer, etc.  Also, Norton Disk Doctor doesn't save files from the Recycle Bin, its Norton Protection (don't worry about that if you don't have Norton Systemworks installed).

Other possibility, DEFRAG.
You might have the space on the drive, but if it can't find appropriately sized blocks, it may not copy right.  Also, check you swap/temp area.
Clean up and defrag then try again.
