when you try to use enable, at the password prompt, use the enable secret password, not the regular enable password.
Which router?

Try the password recovery procedure to reset your config.

Realize you login to the router THEN issue the ENABLE command and the enable secret. THINK! Try every combination you might have typed. Failing guessing what the enable password is, you'll have to get a terminal attached via the serial cable and recover the password.

A remote chance - did you do "copy run start" after you set up the enable secret?  If not, then you could just power-cycle the router to get back to the config (and password) you had before.

I know it's not much help now, but bear in mind that it's good practice to log out and back in after making a config change (particularly one involving authentication) before copying to startup config.  Another useful thing if the router is on a remote site is to issue a "reboot in 5" or similar command before starting your changes.  That way when you change the static routing and lock yourself out... and we've all done it!... you only have to wait 5 for the router to come back with the pre-screw-up config.  If the change all works OK then you just do "reboot cancel".

How about PAQ w/point refund?

Please can you PAQ this rather than delete - we did after all solve the issue and there are some useful general password-recovery comments here for other forum users.
